Kalendar kaum Mayan meramalkan kiamat berlaku pada 2012 dan seluruh dunia kini berbicara mengenainya. Apakah bentuk-bentuk kemusnahan yang mungkin boleh terjadi pada dunia?

RAMALAN tarikh kiamat bukan perkara baru. Sudah acap kali penduduk dunia dimomokkan dengan ramalan hari kiamat berlaku pada tarikh tertentu, namun ternyata nafas dunia belum terhenti. Seorang petani di New England pernah meramalkan kiamat berlaku pada 23 April 1843 sehingga memiliki pengikut yang digelar The Millerites. Tarikh 1 Januari 2000 juga tidak terkecuali antara yang pernah diramalkan.
Terdahulu, riuh pada tahun 1806 apabila seorang penternak di Leeds, Britain mendakwa seekor ayam betinanya mengeluarkan telur bertulis 'Christ is coming' dan masyarakat dunia menjangkakan itu petanda kiamat hampir tiba. Pengasas gereja Mormon pernah menggemparkan dunia apabila memberitahu kiamat bakal berlaku sebelum tahun 1891.
Tahun ini, ramalan kedengaran lagi. Kali ini berdasarkan teori 'pengakhiran kalendar' kaum Mayan, Mexico, kiamat akan berlaku pada 21 Disember 2012. Filem berkisar mengenainya '2012' bakal ditayangkan di pawagam esok. Sama ada ramalan itu benar atau tidak, kita hanya akan mengetahuinya tiga tahun lagi.

Bagaimanapun, keadaan kali ini agak berbeza kerana manusia sedang digomol ketakutan ekoran alam bagaikan menunjukkan tanda-tanda enggan lagi bersahabat dengan manusia. Siri bencana alam luar biasa dan perubahan cuaca yang agak ekstrem menggamit resah.
Bagi mereka yang beriman dengan hari kiamat, hari itu pasti akan tiba. Meski kita tidak tahu bagaimana dan bila ia sebenarnya akan berlaku, namun hari kiamat paling rapat dikaitkan dengan peristiwa kehancuran dunia. Di sini, kita membicarakan tentang kehancuran dunia dan apakah yang memungkinkan ia berlaku.
Saintis mula menjangkakan dunia ini bakal hancur menerusi teori big bang yang diperkukuhkan oleh Edwin Hubble pada tahun 1929. Teori itu mengatakan alam semesta ini terbentuk daripada satu letupan dan ia sedikit sebanyak menggambarkan begitulah juga pengakhirannya atau big crunch. Jika benar teori itu, saintis menjangkakan alam semesta yang kini berusia 13.7 bilion tahun akan 'mati' pada 20 bilion tahun dari sekarang.

Namun begitu, ia bukanlah satu-satunya cara kemusnahan dunia khususnya bumi. Planet yang didiami manusia itu terlalu kerdil untuk dibandingkan dengan seluruh alam semesta. Bumi ibarat setitik pada satu galaksi dan terdapat berbilion-bilion galaksi di alam semesta.
Menurut Pegawai Sains di Agensi Angkasa Negara, Mohd. Zamri Shah Mastor yang ditemui di Putrajaya baru-baru ini, kehancuran dunia atau bumi boleh berlaku menerusi beberapa cara:

1. Hentaman objek
2. Perlanggaran galaksi
3. Fenomena alam berangkai
4. Terma Kosmofobia

• Window shopping: 51 times a year -- nearly 49 hours -- leaving nose prints on the glass at Harrods, but smartly keeping their cards and cash in their wallets.


• Gifts: Nineteen of the average 301 annual shopping trips are spent buying stuff for friends and family

1. This is a good movie to go to if you're unable to sit through real scary movies like Saw and Halloween because the scare level is on the low. Obviously Megan Fox looked great in the entire movie...
